Successful advising includes providing the necessary tools and information regarding educational and career plans compatible with student goals, meeting institutional and degree requirements, and preparing for a life of change, challenge and individual fulfillment as active citizens.\u00a0<\/span><b>The purpose of this award is to encourage and recognize an academic advisor who demonstrates a pattern of excellence in academic advising.<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One person will be awarded a designated campus parking spot<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nominations can be submitted by a faculty, department chair, staff, supervisor, or administrator<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">No self-nominations are allowed<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This award is separate from the Shout-Out Awards. However, Shout-Out Award winners may also be nominated for the Outstanding Academic Advisor Award<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Previous Outstanding Academic Advisor Award winners may be nominated if a minimum of five years has passed since receiving the original award<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Eligibility:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Any individual serving as an academic advisor or faculty academic advisor and employed by Missouri Western may be nominated<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nominees must have a\u00a0<b>minimum of three academic years<\/b>\u00a0of academic advising at Missouri Western at the time of submission<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Award criteria<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0\u2013 The Academic Advising Council will evaluate nominations based on the evidence of qualities and practices that distinguish the nominee as an outstanding academic advisor or faculty advisor. Nominations should provide evidence that the advisor demonstrates Best Practices in Advising, going beyond minimum departmental expectations for advisement. Examples of outstanding advising may include:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Strong interpersonal skills<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Master of institutional regulations, policies and procedures<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Availability to advisees, faculty or staff<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ability to engage in, promote and support developmental advising<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Frequency of contact with advisees<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Evidence of advising in an academic advising program that supports\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nacada.ksu.edu\/Resources\/Pillars\/CoreValues.aspx\"><b>NACADA\u2019s Core Values<\/b><\/a><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Appropriate referral activity<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Use and dissemination of appropriate information sources<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Caring, helpful attitude toward advisees, faculty and staff<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Meeting advisees in informal settings<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Monitoring of student progress toward academic and career goals as evidenced by clear, detailed, and timely notes in GPS<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Process:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Email required supporting documentation to\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"mailto:advisor@missouriwestern.edu\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">advisor@missouriwestern.edu<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> by <strong>Friday<\/strong><\/span><b>, April 10, 2026.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nominators should include their title and department with their nomination.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nominators should write a <\/span><b>narrative of 1 to 2 pages<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. The narrative should contain adequate factual or narrative material that describes the extent to which an individual meets the award criteria,<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The nomination must include <\/span><b>a minimum of one reference letter<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0from students, faculty, department Chairs, staff, supervisors, or administrators and should also be submitted in PDF format.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Selection of this award will be made by the members of the Academic Advising Council and past Outstanding Academic Advising Award winners.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Winner will be nominated for the MACADA (Missouri Academic Advising Association) Outstanding Academic Advisor Award (restrictions apply).<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The award recipient will be recognized at the annual campus awards ceremony.
