There is a link between your diet and how you feel. Eating healthy can make you feel better. Here are some tips to help with your mood:

  • Eat regularly – helps maintain blood sugar levels
  • Stay hydrated
  • Eat the right amount of healthy fats like nuts, fish, and eggs
  • Eat whole grains, fruits, and vegetables
  • Try to include protein with every meal – it contains an amino acid your brain uses to regulate mood
  • Be aware of your gut health – it can reflect how you are feeling
  •  Watch your caffeine intake – it can cause sleep problems, make you irritable and anxious. Watch this short video on how to manage your mood with food
  • Eat meals with other people – it gives you a sense of regularity and a time to talk about your day
  • Try to stay active, and avoid cigarettes and alcohol

If you think you or someone you know is using food in a negative way to deal with emotions – you can get help through the National Eating Disorders Association or NEDA.
