The Academic Advising Council was established in fall 2016 at the request of the College Completion Team. The Council is made up of faculty, department chairs, professional advisors, Registrar, Admissions, Western Institute, and representatives for international students, student-athletes, honors students, and Faculty Senate. The mission of this Council is to address advising concerns and roadblocks our students face regarding advisement/registration and to find solutions that help our students and work for all advisors on campus. Some accomplishments achieved by the Academic Advising Council include:
- Established Best Practices for all advisors to adhere to in their daily advising practice
- Revised and updated Academic Advising Policy to reflect current advising practices and to include individual evaluation of faculty advising
- Addressed GPS usage problems by advisors and how to improve on this usage
- Established award system for academic advisors through the Shout-Out Awards (two in fall and two in spring) and the Outstanding Academic Advisor Award (spring)
- Continued enhancement of advising assessment
