Transitioning into the University, both academically and personally, requires a wide range of skills. This course aims to foster a sense of belonging, promote engagement at MoWest, connect students to campus resources, and help students develop and apply skills critical to their success.
ABOUT THE COURSE
This course introduces students to the vocabulary and processes of college. Students develop study strategies, learn about campus resources and policies, and explore career options.
COURSE OUTCOMES
Upon successful completion of UNV 101, MoWest students will be able to:
- Demonstrate knowledge of University resources to help them succeed including but not limited to the University’s online resources and student services.
- Exhibit personal growth and development demonstrating appropriate balance between academic work and other activities such as social life, work, family, and co-curricular activities.
- Demonstrate an increased appreciation for diversity and commitment to serving others through participation in at least one service opportunity.
- Demonstrate academic growth and development by achieving improved competency in writing, note-taking, active reading, critical thinking and reasoning skills needed to master university-level work.
- Understand the expectations and requirements needed to become a successful student in the University as well as in the School, College, and/or Department that most closely aligns with their career goals
- Demonstrate the organizational and time management skills required to be successful in their courses and applied learning experiences at the University as well as in the School, College, and/or Department that most closely aligns with their career goals.

Yes, all classes count toward your GPA whether they are required or not.
The add/drop period is the first 2 days of the semester. During that time you can add and/or drop classes without a “W” on your transcript.
You must be enrolled in 12 credit hours to be a full time student. Yes, this class does count toward those hours.
Yes, there is a required “textbook” for this class. It is a link for an important survey we will take during the course this semester.
A student can audit this class only for informational instruction, but will not earn credit.
It will count as an elective.
Honors students take HON195 which is similar to UNV101.
MoWest expects regular and punctual attendance in all courses. Since much of this course is activity and participation based, it is critical that you attend all class meetings.

Students develop study skills, learn about campus resources and policies, and explore career options.
