Frequently Asked Questions

Students in affected programs will have three years to complete majors/concentrations and two years to complete minors. A Transition Advisor will work with students, following a customized completion plan for degree completion. This will be unique to student needs, but may include a combination of in-person classes, online classes and partnership arrangements with other universities. Regardless, they will still graduate with a Missouri Western degree in their chosen program.

Students in the affected programs will work one-on-one with a Transition Advisor, following a teach-out plan. They will need to follow the plan, register for the recommended classes during the specific semester and keep in close touch with their Transition Advisor to stay on track for degree completion. Costs, scholarships and financial aid will be the same as before.

Since programs are being phased out, there will not be as many opportunities if a student doesn’t follow their degree completion plan. For example, a course may only be offered a certain semester. It will be critically important for students to follow the teach-out plan in order to complete their degrees.

Students who are unsuccessful in one or more courses may retake them only when and/or if the course  is available during the remaining teach-out time period.   Similarly, a student’s withdrawal or dismissal from a program may jeopardize  his/her ability to complete the degree.

Each student should work with their Transition Advisor. You should have gotten an email with their contact information. They will also be reaching out to their transition advisees on a regular basis. If you don’t know who your Transition Advisor is, please call (816) 271-5990 or email advisor@missouriwestern.edu.

Students should start working on the teach-out plan beginning the Fall 2020 semester. They will need  to talk with their Transition Advisor about their individual degree completion plan.

Students completing the teach-out plan, even if they are taking some classes through partnerships with other universities, will still graduate with a Missouri Western degree.

No. Missouri Western has agreements with select partner universities to enable students to complete the requirements for their degree. There will not be additional tuition/fees charged to students.
